“Africa has a way of calling you back”
It was supposed to be just one trip, but it turned into four — and many more to come. This continent has completely captured my heart, my mind, my soul. It has transformed all of my senses, which now demand to be continuously inspired.
In Africa, I found myself in constant wonder and awe. The spectacular fauna and flora awakened my deepest passion for the animal world. Being there, I felt as if I were moving along invisible roads of a fairy tale, always ready to be surprised by marvellous four-legged creatures. Those almost mythical, majestic beings never ceased to steal my breath or capture my heart.
Exploring through the dust of rugged, bumpy tracks under the stars or basking in the opulent sunlit sky, I began to feel at one with nature. The sound of lionesses panting heavily and the pungent scent of their coats; the hippos singing at night and the zebras narrating their tales; the musical trumpets of elephants and the chatter of wildebeests.
The vultures’ carefully choreographed dance over a kill and flamingos’ rhythmic, amusing movements; the hyenas’ cheeky playfulness and curiosity, and the timid meows of cheetahs; the endless pursuit of a leopard sleeping on a tree branch, and wild dogs yawning in the dusk before the hunt.
The smell of the rain, the dust on my face, the red soil in my hands, the sound of my heart pounding faster and faster… I always want to feel that way: so close to nature, interconnected, and attuned. I never want that feeling to end or fade. This is my artistic version of what I saw — and of what is still to come…
